WARNER DRIVE TAKES OVER VIPER ROOM
Sunset Strip rock refugees Warner Drive are returning to the Viper Room in February and March with four shows that are sure to officially rock the roof off the joint.
Awhile back, when Sunset and Clark first stumbled — and we do mean stumbled, following drinks at Rainbow — upon Warner Drive at Viper Room and witnessed, through bloodshot eyes, the band crank up its signature jam, “All by Myself,” it took us all of 10 seconds into the addictive rocker to proclaim them the best Sunset Strip band since Guns N’ Roses.
Now, as Warner Drive — JonnyLaw, Candice Levinson, Ryan Harris, Jonny Udell and Elvis James — are steering their way back to the comfy confines of the band’s unofficial Sunset Strip home base, it’s hard to believe that these arena-worthy mofos haven’t yet headlined Staples considering that the VR shows are celebrating these local legends’ 10-year anniversary.
Warner Drive, however, is working on its follow-up to the band’s fantastic full-length sophomore release of original songs, 2011’sK-Go!, and considering that the band debuted a dynamite new tune, “King of Swing,” at a recentHouse of Blues show (right), you can likely expect to hear some more cool new tunes!
The band’s Jan. 30 warm up show at the Viper Room in anticipation of WD’s month-long Wednesday night residency sold out quickly. (But trust us, there likely won’t be any left!)

As much of the country is facing a snowstorm and L.A prepares for a rainy week, we decided to take advantage of Tuesday’s brief break of decent weather and take a stroll to Greystone Mansion Park, just around the bend from Doheny and Sunset Boulevard and bridging the rock and roll excess of the Strip with the exotic indulgence of Beverly Hills. It was cool to see the famous location’s generally empty interior sporadically decorated with Christmas decorations (for whatever reason). The room above was used in The Bodyguard and us where Whitney Houston is first introduced to Kevin Costner in front of the fireplace.
The Greystone Mansion and its rolling grounds provide a public oasis for the locals and offers an incredible view of Los Angeles. The mansion has famously been used as an example of indulgence in countless music videos and every classic film from the Toby Maguire-era Spiderman trilogy and The Big Lebowski to Austin Powers: Gold Member and X-Men.
Orion 2013 is set for June 8 and 9. However, unlike other major rock fests like Indio, California’s Coachella and Chicago’s Lollapalooza, Orion is heading out on the road and shifting locations to the Motor City.

Late music legend James Brown is the newest icon to receive a rockin’ tribute via Sunset Boulevard’s Gibson Guitar Town outdoor art installation of towering hand-painted guitar sculptures that are ubiquitous throughout the famous Strip, from Doheny to Crescent Heights.
